Every peptide order from Vantage Aminos ships with a Certificate of Analysis. The document tells you exactly what was tested, by whom, and whether it passed. Most researchers glance at the purity number and move on. There is more worth checking.
The lab name comes first
Look at the top of the document for the laboratory name and address. An accredited contract laboratory that publishes its credentials carries more weight than an unnamed one. Read who commissioned the analysis: the certificate states on its face whether testing was arranged by the manufacturer, by the seller, or by an outside party. A supplier listing its own internal lab is a different thing again. Always confirm the issuing lab is independent of the supplier.
VerificationHPLC purity is the main number
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography measures how much of the sample is your target compound versus impurities. 98% and above is research-grade. Below 95% warrants a direct question to the supplier before you use the material. Vantage Aminos requires 98% minimum across every product in our catalog.
VerificationMass spectrometry confirms identity
Purity alone does not confirm you have the right molecule. Mass spectrometry measures molecular weight and fragments the compound to verify its identity against the expected sequence. Both HPLC and mass spec results should appear on any legitimate COA. A document showing only one of the two is incomplete.
The lot number connects the document to your vial
Every COA carries a lot number. Your vial label should carry the same number. If they do not match, contact us before using the material. Lot traceability is how you confirm the tested batch is what you received.
VerificationEndotoxin testing is a separate line item
Some COAs include Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) endotoxin testing; most do not by default. Endotoxin levels matter for in vitro cell work. If your research requires low-endotoxin material, request a COA that includes this result before placing an order.
What a COA cannot tell you
A COA is a snapshot of one batch at the time of testing. Storage conditions, shipping temperature excursions, and handling after receipt all affect the material in your hands. A clean COA at the lab does not substitute for correct storage on your end.
